What will our world be like?

My theory behind the questions of what our world will be like? well recently i have come across knowledge of possible realities in a few years time of what we will be like and also what could go wrong and the implications behind that. For me there are lots of questions which do not even concern us. The question potentially concerns the animals at risk of extinction and the increase of population. Surely we do not need the problem of our civilisation increasing with the number of humans let alone robots. if we have robots we will have to register them and this will increase our population more and more. Then you have to start to question the contribution who is contributing enough to civilisation to have the right to remain within our planet? well the answer would be the robots because they use little resource.

When looking on a smaller scale i think what technology is coming soon and how will it impact us and effect us? To think how far we have come, looking at history we have surpassed all belief however when you think about the year 2020 as a child i always thought about flying cars and chips in the human skin. Virtual reality is coming but instead of thinking to far i think about the obstacles that prevent us from becoming more adept. Resources and research seem to be a stumbling block we do not have enough minds which think in the way of technology and after research it appears people are a little scared of the future. For me i am excited to see what the future brings and i feel it will surpass all of our expectations and whilst it will be scary i think we have to learn to embrace it.

Virtual Reality

In the morning we had a good preview of the camera equipment we would be potentially be using/ had access to. we wanted to be able to have the freedom to create whatever we want and we may need audio recorders, Cameras and video recorders. During the afternoon as a group we played with analyzed and evaluated different types of VR (virtual reality) before even touching the kit what shocked me just by speech was the fact it could come either rather costly or cheaply but relying on the resources we already have. If you already have a top end phone which can give you the ability to go into 360 mode then that experience would only cost you a couple of pounds for quite simply a cardboard box which can give you an amazing experience. I have conducted research and this particular Device doesn’t really have a name because so many companies try and claim the invention. App store have already 26 VR apps recorded with numerous 360 apps available.

I believe virtual reality is the next gold rush at least it feels that way every company surrounding technology want the next big invention. Sony are working on the next way to make VR affordable and effective for the new PS5. Oculus, Unity, Microsoft, Samsung and Apple also coming up with innovative ways to explore the potential. I finished with Apple for a reason because the focus on Apple is exciting because they are more focused on AR (Augmented reality) The first line on their page is just exciting. “Imagine if the line between the virtual and the really simply didn’t exist. Your classroom could be the cosmos. The past could be as vivid as the present. And the familiar could look live nothing you’ve seen before.” They finish with “welcome to the new world” Apple, (2019), Augmented reality, [Access on 3.3.2020] The companies who are associated with VR are all different you can have Unity who are game developers to Hive who are security specialists. As an educator I feel VR will make a huge difference in a learning environment. Whether that be for young people learning in a classroom or people learning for real life scenarios.

If I look at the higher end scale of what is available, I would look at the company oculus who seem to be very popular in the creation of VR equipment. My favorite by far was film and that is why I personally enjoyed the Oculus go. I felt real emotion and feelings when a dinosaur awoken right next to me, I even had to take the headset off halfway through the scenario just to make sure I was still in a classroom. It is a weird experience but a experience I feel with give us a new perspective on things in which we can’t do every-day things like feeling what it is like to live with dinosaurs, preparing for an abrupt landing or maybe learning how to play guitar. It enables one person to potentially be in many more places at once, something out of Star Wars almost.

The Oculus Rift considering it was far more expensive, I didn’t think it hit me as the producers would have hoped for first of all I felt so far away from the real world it didn’t feel right. I only had the headset on for a few minutes before I took it off. I received a big headache something in which I don’t suffer from often. Coming away from this session I was interested and I decided to conduct a research into whether this was common? Many people suffer from the same and much greater illnesses from VR headset in a gaming setting and I felt a little secluded the design for the device is really cool and I am sure I could get used to it but I felt a little unsafe and a little unaware of all surrounding. I think it will be very interesting to see how these gaming developers deal with the problems faced with.

What is a MOOC?

This week I indulged into the development and simple understanding of creating a MOOC (massive online open course.) A MOOC is something which is becoming more and more popular. Whether this is for companies training staff or you yourself gaining an award. A MOOC can help you gain knowledge fast, cheap and reliably. The biggest benefit to a MOOC is that it can be updated to keep with the times it seems to be a big one-off cost at the beginning and maintenance costs throughout. When looking into creating an online course you mainly want to see a purpose as you would for anything you do. I think one of the most important things to do when creating such a resource is think about your target audience the end user. The end user should be at the focus of everything you do which is associated with the project. During this session I was speaking with one of my peers and we were discussing whether it would be beneficial to have a broad or a specific target audience? There is pros and cons for both. I think if you consider your target audience on a broader scale then you run into problems such as thinking too big and then you actually come away from the target audience.
We also focused on creating a simple storyboard for programs how would the app flow? You rarely think about how much planning has gone into apps, websites, programs and more you mainly think about the functions of the system. We looked at design faults and maybe what we would have done differently if I am looking at a program is the color scheme correct or is the text appropriate? Well you would hope so but I was surprised at how these licensed and published programs still to my eye and my peer’s eyes had faults. We also looked at how a few years ago, things we think about today were not even considered things like; using a pastel background to assist dyslexia or putting in audio to consider certain disabilities.
Overall, I think this lesson enticed me to think in more detail about the planning behind a few things and that is not necessarily digitally but everything. I look at cars and think about each individual plan that went into it. I try to do this with as many products/services as I can and I would highly encourage anyone else to do the same.
